Log a catch
This guide shows you how to add a catch to your log. Only the species is required; the place and the time are filled in for you. Steps 1. On the Map tab, tap + in the bottom right corner, then Add catch. The sheet What did you catch? opens. 2. Choose the species. Tap one of the three cards, or Otherβ¦ to search the list. 3. The catch is attached to that spot. - At any point of the map β touch and hold the point, then tap Log a catch. Choosing the species - The three cards are the species you caught most recently, then the most common ones for your region. - Otherβ¦ opens a search. Without typing, it lists Recently caught and Common in your area. - The built-in list covers common species of the United States, Australia and New Zealand, and works offline. - Your species is not in the list? Type its name and tap the last row, Use "β¦". The catch is saved with the name you typed, without a picture. - If you do not know the species, type something like "Unknown" and use that row. Length and weight - The units follow Length and Weight in Units: centimetres or inches, kilograms or pounds. - Type a number greater than zero. To remove a value, tap the β on the chip. Good to know - β is grey until a species is chosen and the catch has a place. - If you close the sheet with β after entering something, the app asks "Discard catch?" β choose Keep editing to go on. Nothing is kept as a draft. - A date or time in the future is not accepted. - Logging a catch works without a connection. It is synchronised when the phone is online again: Use the app without a signal - Your catches are private: other users do not see them. - To change a catch later: Edit or delete a catch
Set the place and time of a catch
Every catch has a place and a time. The app fills them in; you can change both before saving, and later with Edit. How the app fills them in | How you started | Place | Time | |---|---|---| | + β Add catch | where you are ("Current location") | now | | Log a catch at a saved spot | that spot | now | | Log a catch at a dropped pin | the pin | now | | you add a photo that carries a location | the place of the photo ("Photo location") | the time of the photo | A photo changes the place and time only if you have not set them yourself and did not start from a spot or a pin. With several photos, the earliest one is used. Under the name of the place the app says how it was set: Set automatically or Set manually. Change the place 1. In the catch sheet, tap the Location card. Where was this catch opens. 2. Choose: - From the photo β shown when a photo carries a location; - My current location β shown when the app found your position; - A saved spot β pick one of your spots; - Drag the map manually β move the map under the pin and tap Use this location. A catch saved within about 50 metres of one of your spots is attached to that spot automatically. Change the date and time 1. Drag the catch sheet up. 2. In the When row, tap the date or the time and choose a new one. Past dates are fine β this is how you log a catch from an earlier trip. A date or time in the future is not accepted. If something looks wrong | The app says | What it means and what to do | |---|---| | Locatingβ¦ / Waiting for a GPS fix | The app is finding your position. Wait a moment, or tap the card and set the place yourself. | | Location unavailable - tap to set | The app has no position. Tap the card and choose a spot or drag the map. A catch cannot be saved without a place. | | β photo GPS unusual | The place stored in the photo is far (more than 10 km) from where your phone is. Check the place and change it if it is wrong. | If the app never finds your position: Location does not work After saving To change the place or the time of a saved catch, open it, tap β― β Edit. The conditions of the catch are worked out again for the new place and time: Edit or delete a catch
Photos of your catches
Add photos to a catch 1. In the catch sheet, tap Add a photo (or the + tile when the catch already has photos). 2. Choose: - Take photo β opens the camera; - Choose from library β opens your photo library; you can pick several photos at once. To remove a photo from the catch, tap the Γ on its thumbnail. To add or remove photos on a saved catch, open it and tap β― β Edit. Only photos can be added, not videos. The first photo you add is the one shown on the catch's card. Look at the photos Open the catch and tap the photo. Swipe left or right between photos, pinch or double-tap to zoom, and swipe down or tap β to close. Where the photos are kept - The photo files stay on your phone, inside the app. They are not uploaded to our servers. - A photo you take in the app is also saved to your iPhone's photo library, if you allow it. The app asks the first time: "Save photos you take while logging a catch to your photo library." - A photo you choose from the library is already in your library; the app keeps its own copy for the catch. Because the files live only on your phone: - deleting the app deletes the photos kept in the app; - the photos do not appear on another phone; - photos saved in your iPhone's photo library are not touched when you delete a catch, a photo in the app, or all your data. More: Reinstalling the app or changing phones Permissions - Camera β asked the first time you tap Take photo. - Add to Photos β asked after the first photo you take, to save a copy to your library. If you say no, the photo is still attached to the catch. - Choose from library needs no permission: the app receives only the photos you pick and cannot browse your library. If it does not work - Nothing happens when I tap Take photo. The app has no access to the camera. Open the iOS Settings app, find the app's page and turn Camera on. You can always use Choose from library instead. - A photo tile shows a circular arrow. The photo could not be added. Tap the tile to try again. - A catch shows "No photo". The catch has no photo, or its file is not on this phone β for example after the app was reinstalled. Good to know There is no way to share or export a photo from the app. To share a picture, use the copy in your iPhone's photo library.
