In the United States the app shows official weather warnings from the National Weather Service (NWS) and tropical storms from the National Hurricane Center (NHC). Warnings are free for everyone.

There are no warnings in the app for other countries.

Weather warnings come with an update of the app. If you do not see them — for example there is no **Weather warnings** row under the layers button on the map — update Fishing App in the App Store.

## Where you see them

- **Forecast** — at the top of the day, one card per warning, the most serious first. An amber dot marks every day a serious warning touches.
- **A saved spot** and **a dropped pin** — the warnings that cover that place.
- **The map** — the areas of the most urgent warnings and the active tropical storms.

## Read a warning

A card shows the name of the warning as the agency gave it (for example "Small Craft Advisory") and when it was issued. Tap **Details** to read the agency's own text, including **What to do**.

- An **amber** card is a warning or one of the advisories that matter most on the water.
- A **blue** card is a watch, another advisory or a statement.

A warning disappears when the hazard ends.

## Warnings on the map

1. On the **Map** tab, tap the layers button in the top right corner.
2. Under **Layers**, turn **Weather warnings** on or off. It is on by default.

What is drawn:

- amber areas — Tornado, Severe Thunderstorm, Flash Flood, Special Marine and Extreme Wind warnings;
- active tropical storms and hurricanes — the current position, the forecast track and the cone.

Other warnings, such as a Small Craft Advisory, are **not** drawn on the map. To see every warning for a place, touch and hold the map there and read the cards in the sheet, or open the forecast for that place.

The areas on the map cannot be tapped.

## The line under the layers button

| The app says | What it means |
|---|---|
| Storms and urgent warnings · as of 10:20 PM | The map is up to date as of that time. |
| Warnings shown for the US only | The part of the map you are viewing is outside the United States. |
| Warnings unavailable | The warnings could not be loaded — no connection, or the data is too old to show. |
| Zoom in to see every warning | There are too many warnings in view to draw all of them. |

## Important

- **No warning in the app does not mean the water is safe.** The app never says "all clear": a warning may be missing because it could not be loaded, because it is not a type the map draws, or because the place is outside the United States.
- The app is not a real-time alert service and does not send notifications. A warning can reach the app some minutes after it is issued.
- Always check the official sources — in the US, weather.gov and your local marine forecast — and the conditions around you before you go out.
