## What the forecast is built from

- **Weather** — wind, rain, sky, temperature, pressure — and **tide, waves and water temperature** come from a weather data provider, for the point you chose.
- **Sunrise, sunset and the moon** are calculated on your phone.
- **The bite score** is worked out in the app from the tide, the sun, the moon and the weather: [The bite score and the best fishing windows](https://help.blacklabr.com/hc/blacklabr/articles/bite-score)
- **Official weather warnings** come from the US National Weather Service: [Official weather warnings](https://help.blacklabr.com/hc/blacklabr/articles/weather-warnings)

## How far ahead

Seven days: today and the next six. Past days are not shown.

## Where it works

- The weather and the bite score are available for any point you can choose on the map.
- **Tide, waves and water temperature** are shown where the data exists for the point. Where it does not — for example on most inland waters — the section says so ("Tide data isn't available for this area yet.") and the bite score is worked out without the tide.

Tide heights and times in the app are a guide for planning a fishing trip. Do not use them for navigation.

## How often it is updated

- The weather is refreshed automatically about once an hour while you use the app — when you open the forecast, when you come back to the app, and when the connection returns.
- There is nothing to pull or tap to refresh. To get the newest data, make sure the phone is online and open the Forecast tab again.
- The app does not update the forecast in the background.

## The line at the bottom of the forecast

| The app says | What it means |
|---|---|
| Weather updated 3:24 PM | The weather is current. |
| Weather outdated (3:24 PM) - refreshing when possible | The weather is more than a few hours old and the app is trying to get a newer one. |
| Offline - live updates paused · weather from 3:24 PM | The phone is offline. You see the last weather the app loaded. |
| No weather data yet - bite score uses tide & sun/moon only | No weather could be loaded for this place. |

## Without a connection

The forecast for places you opened while online stays on your phone for up to seven days. As the saved weather gets old, the coming hours are scored from the tide, the sun and the moon only, and the rings of those days are faded.
